YMCA Camp is 125 years young!

Since 1885 YMCA camping has been about FUN and Friendships. The Fremont/Newark YMCA Day Camp held a birthday party for YMCA Camp on July 14^th, 2010.

“We wanted to celebrate with our campers and acknowledge this milestone”, said Executive Director David Hembree. “Just imagine the difference that camp has made in the lives of children and families for over 125 years. Camp is a transformational experience, a great step toward independence and learning how to get along with others in a community, and it’s a lot of FUN. The YMCA has been at the forefront of the magic of camping for 125 years. That is worth celebrating!”

The campers, staff and volunteers from the board will be celebrated over lunch, complete with a birthday cake big enough to hold 125 candles.

YMCA Kid City Mayor Elected!

The results of the contest are in!

Newly elected Kid City Mayor Noopur Desai submitted the winning essay; finishing the statement; "If I were Mayor of Fremont, I would make my city greener by...". Entries were made in the form of an essay of 200-500 words, a poster 11"x17", or a dvd video presentation no longer than 2 minutes.

Vice Mayor Mari Chandy already has experienced the duites of her office, she "stood in" for the Kid City Mayor by riding in the YMCA entry for Fremont's 4th of july parade. Both elected officials are invited to preside at the opening ceremonies of YMCA Kid City on the weekend of July 31-Aug. 1.

The winners will also receive a free week of YMCA Summer Day Camp.
